Earthly Imperfection

In the five-star hotel, meticulously polished,

with every amenity, we find

a dead cockroach in a lofty suite corner.

The news anchor’s coif, styled

and sprayed for a national audience,

still renders stray tresses bobbing

On his forehead for twenty minutes,

we see and hear nothing else.

The most beautiful architectural

Structures on earth, sometimes created

or owned by the physically decrepit

or grossly unattractive.

Our own nation led by the felonious

and the feeble,

in our strive for perfection

Even pure gold’s only 99.99%,

our water’s laced in fluoride,

our organic vegetables

Compromised

by glysophate

blowover,

“The only thing perfect is God,”

said a friend whose craftwork

showed rough edges

On purpose.
