Falling freshly, a rain folding
into seams of earth, the furried theme
of spring. A rain blessing. A rain
blooming plumage of goldenrod and flesh
of foxglove. A rain radiating gray, simmering
like jasmine rice. Days of rain.
Nature shows what love is: the equation
of waves and weathered wind easing leaves.
Fragrance of cedars. Nest of nettles.
Fling of ferns against our thighs.
Vines like hammocks crisscrossing the trail.
We, blunt birds of the forest
smelling of pitch and salt sweat, step
into mud, become mud, glowing wet.
We the willows and wild cherry
breathing, growing into tree roots
